Crime talk timestamp: 6:32 minutes in
It was the 2nd February 1986 in the Australian suburb of Blacktown, New South Wales, when 26 year old nurse Anita Cobby said goodbye to her friends & began to make her way home from the station.
But tragically Anita would never make it home.
Because along her route she was abducted by 5 evil, sadistic men who took it in turns to brutally beat, sexually assault & torture her before she was murdered.
The brutality that she had endured at the hands of these men reduced even the most hardened officers to tears.
In a crime that shocked the whole of Australia & left people asking for the death penalty to be reinstated , Anita's case has left an imprint on the nation even to this day. Not only because of the devastation her loved ones & everyone felt.
But also because of the positive changes her parents Gary & Grace Lynch fought to improve in the justice system for homicide victims & their families.
They made sure their beloved daughter's death- as horrific as it had been, was not completely in vain & helped to channel their grief into positive changes for the families of homicide victims.
As it reaches 38 years since Anitas death, we take a look into the harrowing & brutal events of that night & the incredibly swift police investigation that helped bring her killers to justice.
It really highlights how a completely innocent young woman who is just trying to get home in a normal suburb can unknowingly cross paths with a dangerous gang of men.
Unspeakably evil men who were out just to hunt for a victim.
Anita's death will forever be etched into the hearts of a nation, & she will never be forgotten. She is still to this day, remembered for the kind compassionate woman that she was whose life & death has had an impact on so many.
Her story truly is a crime that broke the heart of a nation, but through that darkness came some light. Because Anita's case has helped bring awareness to the safety of women nationwide ....
