Constructive controversy is just what it implies; rather than block out the other person's views, why not listen to what they're trying to say.  Yeah, it's hard to do sometimes - in fact, a lot of times if we don't agree. However, being respectful of other views, unless they're complete whacko, can help us grow in knowledge and maybe more importantly, in compassion and understanding.
