The religion I was raised in had no tolerance for homosexuality. When I did finally come out, my family was convinced that there was a gay demon inside of me and the only way to save my soul was to put me through an exorcism. Earlier this year, I reconnected with one of the pastors involved in that traumatic experience, someone I grew up with, someone I once called a great friend. It's been over 20 years since we've seen each other, but this weekend we finally broke bread together and made amends. If I can forgive my exorcist, think about what grudges you can let go. As far as human realness goes, this is about as real as it gets!
