Jim Collins wrote: "Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We don't have great schools, principally because we have good schools. We don't have great government, principally because we have good government. Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life."
Obviously, Collins is not advocating for the reverse: no life or society is helped by "bad" attendance to those things! After all, "good enough" makes the world slip into entropy and chaos.
But what we really want - and this is principally in found in relationships - are GREAT relationships - or relationships committed to greatness. We're talking about relationships that are intentionally above-average in intent, intimacy, ethics, and expectations.
But the boundary between good and great is not easily or casually crossed. (If anyone knows that, it's God!)
