皆さんは、家族と離れて、一人で住んでみたいですか。Would you like to live alone, away from your family?

それとも、ずっと家族と一緒に住みたいですか。Or would you like to live with your family for a long time?

シンガポールで家の話を聞くと、

When I hear people talk about housing in Singapore,

少し複雑で大変だなと感じます。it feels a bit complicated and difficult.

値段の話だけではありません。It’s not only about the price.

年齢の条件があります。There are age requirements.

BTOという仕組みもあります。There is also a system called BTO.

だから、好きな時に、家を借りたり、買ったりすることができません。So you can’t rent or buy a home whenever you want.

日本では、どうでしょうか。How is it in Japan?

私が大学生のとき、

When I was a university student,

一人暮らしを始めた友達がたくさんいました。many of my friends started living alone.

仕事を始めるタイミングで、家を出る人も多かったです。Many people also left home when they started working.

私もそうでした。I was the same.

一人で住む。Living alone.

家族と住む。Living with family.

場所を選ぶ。Choosing where to live.

シンガポールと比べると、日本のほうがルールが少ないです。Compared to Singapore, Japan has fewer rules.

だから、いろいろ選ぶことができます。So there are many choices.

でも、見方を変えると、

But if you change your perspective,

日本のほうが絶対いいとは、言えないと思います。I don’t think Japan is always better.

日本は、シンガポールより大きいです。Japan is much bigger than Singapore.

だから、もし大阪に住んでいて、

So if you live in Osaka and

東京の大学や会社に入ったら、enter a university or company in Tokyo,

絶対に、一人暮らしをしなければなりません。you have to live alone.

家族や友達がいる街を、出なければなりません。You have to leave the city where your family and friends live.

シンガポールは、どこに住んでいても、家族や友達が近くにいます。In Singapore, your family and friends are close, no matter where you live.

休みの日に、いつでも会えます。You can meet them easily on your days off.

電車やバスに乗れば、あっという間です。If you take a train or a bus, it’s very quick.

日本では、そうはいかないこともあります。In Japan, that’s not always the case.

仕事や学校で、田舎から都会に住んだら、If you move from the countryside to the city for work or school,

毎週、家族に会うことはできません。you can’t see your family every week.

会いたくても、時間もお金もかかります。Even if you want to, it takes time and money.

どうですか。How about you?

皆さんだったら、寂しいですか。Would you feel lonely?

それとも、一人の方が楽ですか。Or is being alone easier for you?

一人暮らしをしたいけど、できない人。People who want to live alone but can’t.

家族といたいけど、一人で暮らさなければならない人。People who want to stay with family but have to live alone.

いろいろな人がいます。There are many different people.

皆さんは、お父さんやお母さん、兄弟と、ずっと一緒に住みたいですか。Do you want to live with your parents and siblings for a long time?

それとも、早く一人で住みたいですか。Or do you want to live on your own as soon as possible?

一人だと、寂しいですか。Do you feel lonely when you are alone?

自分にとって、何が一番幸せなんでしょうか。What do you think is the happiest choice for you?
