  • Through a Glass Darkly

Despair is disconnect from reality. Your reality is full of hope because you have been created by God for a purpose. Unfortunately, it's too easy in our culture to get swept away with distraction and get caught up in despair. Try to remember the unseen things like God's faithfulness because, like we said earlier in the week, hope is invisible.

  • Even Though My Situation Isn't Getting Better

Hope is anchored on the person of Jesus, not our situation. God is sovereign. Job talks about no plan of God being thwarted. God loves us. Wants the best for us. Works everything for the good of those who love Him. God is holy. He uses His power perfectly and will never take advantage of us.

  • Hope Sets You Free To Be Yourself

What's the best way to get the best life? By doing what God created you to do. Being someone created by God for a purpose should fill us with hope. We are able to trust that He has a destiny in mind for us even if we can't see what that may be right now. There is freedom there.

  • Hope Takes Work

The instructions are a short-cut to get us where we want to go. But how often do you try to blaze your own trail instead of trusting the designer? Being in scripture will always remind us to remember. If you don't have a plan and method to remember God's faithfulness, you're going to drift.

  • Hope Refuses to Take in the Chaos

Lack of hope freezes you in life. Things are overwhelming without hope. This week, we talk about how hope is invisible. It's tricky because hope requires faith. Without hope, calm is impossible. We can trust that God is working things out now, not just in the future.

  • Moving through Despair and Disregard to HOPE

Jesus is emotionally available. How often do we avoid going with someone into their emotions? In the story of Lazarus, we see Jesus weeping over His friend and for others' loss. We are called to take the time to explore our emotions with others—to accept them from others, even when we don't understand them.

  • Battling Bitterness, Isolation, and Jadedness in Ministry

Bitterness, isolation and jadedness are aspects of the darkness getting in the way of our connection with God and others. We're looking at the stories of Mary and Martha today. In the first story, Martha can only complain about Mary not working with her. In the second story, Martha is looking for a connection with Jesus over the death of her brother.

  • This was the Plan All Along

Our culture values the "you deserve it" and "watch out for #1" attitude. Of course, this kills relationships. Therefore, selflessness gets noticed because it's very unusual. Christianity is the only religion we've found that balances love of God, self, and others. Discipline is a great way to combat selfish tendencies.

  • Ministry Should Never End

Our need for grace and a savior never changes, no matter how much we change in our spiritual development. The darkness in the way of surrender is pride, independence, & individuality. These three areas are a lie—a mask across reality. Being a light-bearer in the arena of surrender is going to stir up pain. The light we need here is humility, dependence, and vulnerability.

  • Peace Shines like a Star

Your ministry is to shed light in a dark world. The darkness takes many forms. The darkness that steals your calm is busyness and feelings of overwhelm. We live in a loud world, so using quiet in your ministry may be a path to peace. It's certainly counter cultural! We look at examples from Jesus' ministry when He was able to remain calm in stressful situations.

About Epic Every Day

From the publisher's feed

We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive.
