Relatable Leader

Episode 002 Creativity and Work Ethic

Listen Later

In this episode I share an example of something I created for my Attitude Management course and challenge you to find unique ways for bringing some fun into your leadership style. As you will hear, I encourage you to Choose Awesome Instead!

I take you to dinner with my Dad, who had a tremendous impact on my view of work ethic and dedication to doing my best no matter what job I had. I ask him to share his advice for you. This interview was unscripted - he did not know I was going to bring my recorder with me and ask him for an interview. My Dad was almost 76 when he -finally! - retired. On his 79th birthday he had emergency quadruple bypass surgery and a valve replacement. Now, a year later, it was fun for me to honor his experience by asking him to share his perspective with you.

This week focus on:

- Your unique leadership style and how you can surprise people through your creativity and fun (you don't get to stay stuck in any story that sounds like, "I'm not a creative person.")

- Your team's impression of your work ethic. This past week I talked with a supervisor who requires her team to be at work at 6:30 a.m. and she doesn't mosey on in until around 9:30 or 10. Her reason? She told me she isn't a "morning person". Okay then, don't take on a leadership role for a morning team, because you can't lead if you aren't even there! Sheesh, our stories can be real credibility busters! What message are your behaviors sending to your team as related to work ethic?
