"The goal is to transcend yourself, not to defeat others"
Today I sat down and chatted with Alastair about accomplishing the Craigieburn Round.
Set in the Southern Alps, Canterbury, the Craigieburn Round is an off trail alpine pilgrimage. With only 2 water supplies along the 100km+ distance and 10km+ vertical climb, exposed ridges over 2000m, and no huts or shelters, it's an absolute monster of a mission.
Alastair shares his stories of battling hours of brutal winds through a never-ending night, fighting off sleep monsters, and gets deep and meaningful about his motivation to seek challenging experiences, his appreciation of the integral relationship between one's own solitude and community, and the spiritual elements of 'the journey and the challenge'.
Enjoy!
