Harjinder has become a bit of a local running legend in Dunedin. Running marathons in gumboots, taking on crazy challenges... it's fair to say he's no stranger to pushing his limits.
But's it's not all about him.
Harrie uses these challenges to raise awareness and funds for important causes. Last year he showed solidarity with farmers, both here in NZ and also in his homeland India, by running the Queenstown Marathon, amongst other events, in gumboots and overalls.
This year, he's bashing the Baldwin. On Saturday, from 5am, to be exact.
And he's doing it to raise money and awareness for the Mental Health Foundation.
In this episode I sit down with Harrie and chat about running, life, and everything in between. This is a light hearted episode with a bit of banter, and hopefully a great insight to the man who runs for a reason.

Until next time, jog on and enjoy the slow burn!
The Tahoe 200 is an incredible journey around the largest alpine lake in North America. The route circumnavigates the sparkling, clear blue waters of Lake Tahoe from the Tahoe Rim Trail, occasionally detouring off the TRT to explore aspen meadows, rock gardens of giants, small impossibly blue lakes, thick canopied forests, and long ridge lines with stunning views. The route is nothing less than magical.
And it’s on Rudi’s bucket list. This humble Tulip grower from Edendale has been through a long process of recovery after a significant injury forced him to take pause, rehab, and start training smarter.
Now he’s hungry. He has the buckles, but this isn’t about a shiny piece of metal. This time it’s personal.
It was a privilege to sit down with Rudi and learn why this pilgrimage is so important, and how a person prepares for such an epic adventure. Oh and as always good to have a laugh with an ol' Crush the Cargill veteran!

Maree Leith is the founder of Go Run Girls, and is an inspiring athlete who earned her first 100 miler belt buckle as well as third place at the 2021 Old Forest Hanmer 100 last weekend.
Maree is a personal trainer, running coach, event reviewer, interviewer, pilates instructor, event manager, blogger, mother, wife, ultra-runner, and entrepreneur! And whilst she wears many hats in her day-to-day, she still knows how to keep it real and focus on what really matters.
In this episode we chat about the race itself, hallucinations, lamp post running, and Maree's passion for leading by example and support others to achieve their fitness goals.
I hope you enjoy this episode, and until next time, jog on and enjoy the slow burn!
In this episode I catch up with Elly Arnst and discuss her debut ultra race (and win!) at the 2021 Old Forest Hanmer 100.
Elly is an experienced tramper, runner, and is a bit of an adventure legend! Despite this being her first ultra race, she is no stranger to taking on long distances over challenging terrain. At the end of 2020 she took on the epic Ruahine Traverse in 39 hours without sleep, alongside good friend and Hanmer 100 crew-mate Katie Wright.
We chat about the race, problem-solving on the go, pushing your limits, Revenant 2022, and what it means to be part of the crew!
"The goal is to transcend yourself, not to defeat others"
Today I sat down and chatted with Alastair about accomplishing the Craigieburn Round.
Set in the Southern Alps, Canterbury, the Craigieburn Round is an off trail alpine pilgrimage. With only 2 water supplies along the 100km+ distance and 10km+ vertical climb, exposed ridges over 2000m, and no huts or shelters, it's an absolute monster of a mission.
Alastair shares his stories of battling hours of brutal winds through a never-ending night, fighting off sleep monsters, and gets deep and meaningful about his motivation to seek challenging experiences, his appreciation of the integral relationship between one's own solitude and community, and the spiritual elements of 'the journey and the challenge'.
Enjoy!
@21 min - interview with Dan McPherson
@50 min - interview with Helene Barron
And a big thanks to Jimmy, Fran, Roger, Jamie, Steve, and Chris for the pre-race chats!
Coastal Ultra is a 71km ultramarathon set in the Catlins, at the bottom of the South Island. It is a point to point race, where participants run from the beautiful Waipati Beach, home to the Cathedral Caves, through 99% private land, and finishing at Curio Bay. It's a big day out.
This podcast begins with my pre-race thoughts as I drove from the Whistling Frog (our accomodation) to Curio Bay, and is followed by some pre-race chats with other runners. I managed a short bonus recording about 1/3 through the race, capturing my initial impressions, before the race got really tough!
Fast forward one week, and I am joined first by Dan McPherson, from Christchurch, and Helene Baronn, from Wanaka, to chat about their race experiences, passion for adventure, and to dig deep into what it is that makes these epic adventures so precious.
Thanks for listening - stay tuned, and enjoy the slow burn
Catching up with Wyatt Stevens this episode was a blast. Not long ago he smashed out an epic day in the mountains by executing a self-planned, solo 100 mile (well, closer to 110!) adventure through Mt Aspiring National Park. We talk about the experience, what inspires him to trail run, and what makes NZ such an awesome playground to those looking for adventure!
Episode 4 features the ultra awesome Dunedin ultra runner Chantal Whitby. We chat about Ultra Easy 2021, the importance of clear track markers, the "why" of running long distances in the mountains, training and recovery, fast-packing, and a super exciting goal for next year that as of this episode is totally public! If you enjoy this podcast please consider supporting the podcast by sharing it with your friends, other runners, and keeping up to date by liking The Boiled Frogcast on Facebook. Until next time... jog on and enjoy the slow burn!
In this episode I catch up with Chris Taylor and Steve Tripp and talk Revenant. We end up talking about lots of things, like home brewing, the art of napping, unlocking Revenant's secrets, the call to adventure, how to train for ultra distances, peanuts, and a whole lot more. This is the first "live" in person episode, recorded in the state-of-the-art recording studio: my lounge.
In this episode I catch up with Peter and Sarah Haines, the founders of the Three Peaks Mountain Race, an exhilarating trail running event that has thrilled trail runners every March in Dunedin for over 30 years. We talk about the Dunedin trail running scene in the 80's, orienteering, and the spirit of adventure. If you've entered into the Three Peaks this year, or have any interest in how it all started, then this is a fantastic episode for you!
