Our money story - What is it? and why does it matter?
We often underestimate the complexity of a union between 2 individuals in a relationship who have spent a majority of their lives and formative years apart. We each have our own unique stories and with it, we bring baggage, experiences & values that may not always align with one another.
One story which we often don’t talk about is our individual money stories, which is the narrative that defines our relationship and view of money and includes things like our upbringing, experiences, influences and attitude towards money.
It’s important we know our money story because it impacts our values and decisions as well as the baggage we carry into a relationship. By understanding our own stories, we are able to craft what we call “our story” which is the story that you will begin to write in your relationship together.
This episode will be released in 2 parts. In Part 1 which is today's episode, we're delving into the depths of our money story, exploring how our individual journeys intersected to shape our shared financial narrative as a couple.
Then in our next episode, we will continue our money story by reflecting on the highs and lows, the challenges and triumphs, and ultimately, how we've merged our distinct paths to craft a new chapter together – our story.
We don’t just want you to listen to our individual stories, but we’re sharing our stories to encourage you to learn and articulate your individual money story. You can do that by asking yourself and or each other these 3 questions
By answering honestly and reflecting on these 3 questions, you’ll begin to articulate your individual story and identify what defines your own relationship with money.
