New York. 1966. Archie Harris has just encountered his old friend Sallie Lindstrom at a Manhattan house party. Together they muse on the mysterious disaster that marked their young lives. Archie is still troubled by horrific auditory hallucinations. And Sallie still bleeds from her gums, eyes, and scalp. Archie asks Sallie the question he’s been pondering for the last fifteen years: "What really happened out at the barn that night?"
