Ideally, allowances are paid after a service is provided. However, in popular Zambian culture particularly in the Lusaka dating pool, girlfriend allowances have become a trend. While some couples conform to paying girlfriend allowance, others have opted not to. To give girlfriend allowance or not is an individual choice. If a couple decides the former, arrangements about the amount and at what intervals this money is given are solely up to them.
