What the Heck?

Episode 100- You're Getting Very Sleepy

Listen Later

Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but one of the stories we've covered has been solved. This week is the 100th episode! We're diving back into some of the previous episodes with some really important updates, and then looking at the history of hypnosis! Hypnosis has been used for thousands of years as a way to cure illnesses. In the 1700s, a man named Mesmer thought he had discovered a magnetic liquid that flowed through everyone. His theories were debunked by a scientific panel hired by King Louis XVI, ruining his reputation. In the 1800s, a man named John Elliotson used mermerism to help sick people, but caused controversy when he held shows in the hospital. In the modern day, we're only just beginning to learn how hypnosis affects us mentally and physically, but it's still viewed with scepticism. Join us as we celebrate 100 full episodes, and go on a journey through history!.
