Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but one of the stories we've covered has been solved. Christmas has been a very busy time for me, so I'm playing catch up! Episodes will drop to weekly so I can do this, but each one will contain a main episode and a creature feature!
This week, we're looking at Greek Fire in the main episode. Greek Fire was used mainly in naval combat by the Byzantine Empire. A devastating weapon, it continued to burn even on the surface of the water. However, nobody has been able to recreate it, even with modern day technology.
In the creature feature this week, we're looking at the Behemoth. First referenced in the Book of Job, it's described by God. The idea of this creature has interested theologians and philosophers over the years. The description of the Behemoth in scripture is rather vague though, so the theories on it are a little wild.
Who invented Greek Fire? How did the Byzantine Empire utilise it? What is it even made of? What does the Behemoth look like? Is it secretly a demon? Why does God speak to Job about it? Listen in to find out!
