Episode 105- Poirot and Miss Marple's Greatest Mystery, & Creature Feature 61- Nine-tailed Spirits

Listen Later

Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but one of the stories we've covered has been solved. Christmas has been a very busy time for me, so I'm playing catch up! Episodes will drop to weekly so I can do this, but each one will contain a main episode and a creature feature!

This week, we're looking at the disappearance and reappearance of Agatha Christie in the main episode. Agatha Christie is one of the most famous mystery authors of the 20th Century. After growing up in Devon, England, and then Paris, France, her life really began to pick up around the beginning of the First World War when she married her husband. By 1926, things were strained for her. In the December, she left her daughter and home in the care of the maids and disappeared for 11 days, only to be found in a spa in Yorkshire with a case of amnesia.

In the creature feature this week, we're looking at Kitsune. Part of the Japanese Yokai folklore, these fox spirits are known to be both helpful and tricksters, depending on the stories. They are either benevolent messengers of a Shinto god, or evil spirits looking for vengeance. Very powerful, and unable to forget a favour owed, they could be very useful to keep on your side.

What happened to Agatha Christie? Why did she end up in Yorkshire? Did she ever reveal what happened? What can a kitsune do? How can you control them? What are kitusne treasures and kitsune gifts? Listen in to find out!
