Episode 108: Andre Chung (Filmmaker)

An award-winning photojournalist and portrait photographer, André Chung creates dynamic portraits, captures decisive moments and stories with the goal of grabbing the viewers attention and encouraging them to take a deeper look.

Andre was the recipient of the 2021 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Domestic Photography, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize five times while a staff photographer at The Baltimore Sun. In addition, he has also received the George Polk Award, and the Sigma Delta Chi award. He was twice named the Times Mirror Journalist of the Year. He recently released a film titled “Eroding History” which can be viewed on Vimeo and is currently making the film festival rounds.

Whether shooting a celebrity portrait for an ad campaign or a library of photos for a corporation or foundation, André brings a strong sense of composition, a love of light and a keen ability to create dynamic imagery to each of his assignments.

Andre has been a guest on 10FPS previously (Episode 16) and on this episode we focus on his most recent project, directing the documentary film “Eroding History” exploring the intersection of sea level rise, historic racism and the disappearing Black communities of Deal Island, MD is available on PBS and Vimeo.  It premiered last year at the Loyola University Environmental Film Series at the Senator Theater.
