In this episode of the Project Renew podcast, we discuss the difficulty of flashbacks for traumatized nurses with PTSD. When one is immediately and powerfully reminded of a traumatic incident in any sense, this is called a flashback. They're widespread among people living with PTSD and can have a devastating impact on those affected. The podcast emphasises that flashbacks are a multisensory re-experience of the traumatic incident, not just a remembrance of the events. Recognizing individual flashback triggers and early warning indicators can help you avoid experiencing them in the future. When experiencing a flashback, keeping your attention on something tangible or intensely scented can be helpful. You can lessen your nervousness and obtain supportive, encouraging responses that will help support you out of it if you talk to people, especially fellow nurses.

Remember that you have a lot of support and are a resilient nurse and trauma survivor. Many people can relate to having PTSD and experiencing flashbacks. There are strategies for dealing with and getting through these challenges. The support of loved ones and understanding your unique triggers and warning flags can get you through this. Please don't give up the fight, nurse warrior. Play this episode of Project ReNew now if you're interested in hearing more about PTSD and how to cope with painful flashbacks.

A small pull toward the part of you

that still believes in why you began.

Not because it’s easy.

Because it’s yours.
