Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but one of the stories we've covered has been solved. Christmas has been a very busy time for me, so I'm playing catch up! Episodes will drop to weekly so I can do this, but each one will contain a main episode and a creature feature!
This week, we're looking at the Redhead Murders in the main episode. In the 1980s, the bodies of women with red hair began appearing on the side of interstates in multiple states. A summit called with the police of these states and the FBI couldn't link them together. In recent years, university students were tasked with solving these and linked at least 14 murders together. There's even a link to the Bible Belt Killer.
In the creature feature this week, we're looking at Dire Wolves. Often thought of as fantasy, it turns out these creatures were real. Their history as folkloric creatures dates back to the 1800s. There is a story from the 13th Century though. Much research has gone into dire wolves, and some answers have been found abou them.
What are the redhead Murders? How did a group of 20 students come up with their answers? Who are the suspects? When did dire wolves live? What do people think about them? What has research about them discovered? Listen in to find out!
