Episode 115: Why Listening Is Important

One reason I really enjoy podcasts is because I listen to them.

Not just hear them, but listen to them.

It feels as if we've gotten so used to operating with background noise, that we're better equipped to hear than to listen.

What's the difference between the two? 

I don't have any official definitions.

For me, hearing is just sounds coming into our ears and being recognized by our brains.

Listening, however, requires thought and processing.

I was recently involved in a work-thing where one party did not listen to anyone.

This person spent a lot of time talking, dominating the conversation with everyone they came across, but very little time or energy listening.

A few people told me in private that this person refuses to listen to anyone.

It got me to thinking, what if we all committed a little more to listening more - free from judgment, and free from conclusions.

Imagine how many fewer challenges we would experience in life.
