In fact, it began as far back as 1902, according to some research, being thrust into the limelight with the Oxford lectures of Fr. Ronald Knox. Publications like the Baker Street Journal and the Sherlock Holmes Journal have been cranking out their issues multiple times a year since the mid-20th century, and other regular periodicals as well as hundreds upon hundreds of books have dedicated themselves to the study of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works about Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes. Does it show any sign of abating? What can we learn about the next wave of our hobby, based on looking at the past?
