Welcome back to another episode of Revolutions of Our Time! In this episode, we discuss the degree to which Christ can be considered as a proto-socialism figure, and how a Marxist perspective and ideology and be complimentary with certain religious traditions as a liberatory force. Ultimately, we are talking about Liberation Theology.
Liberation theology focuses on using theology and religion as a tool to liberate the oppressed, and is often directly counter to official Church doctrine. Liberation Theology never fully embraced Marxism, but did borrow tenets from it, leading to challenges when butting up against formal religious structures.
