What the Heck?

Episode 120- Explosion on the Moon

Listen Later

Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered has been solved. This week, we're looking at the time the moon split in half. In 1178, a monk recorded 5 eyewitnesses who saw the top of the crescent moon violently split. During the English church reformation, all of his work was lost. In 1976, these records were rediscovered, sparking a mission to find out what really happened. What did the eyewitnesses see? Could it have been an asteroid hitting the moon? Did anyone else see it happen? Listen in to hear all the theories!
