This episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the second part of our conversation with Dean Stott, a Tier 1 special forces soldier, adventurer, world-record breaker, and author of Relentless.
Dean shares his determination to join the elite Special Boat Service and the sheer differences between what people see in the movies and in real life. He also explains how being a soldier is also not the same as being in executive protection and the need to be thorough when protecting clients.
GOLDEN NUGGETS
To be Tier 1, you need to have brains as well as brawns - Dean: "Being the fittest isn't the best. The selection process dwindles out. Those that are fit, those that can also retain information, those that can work in teams, work on their own, and make decisive decisions under pressure."
The special forces are not like what you see on TV - Dean: "Everyone has this perception of special forces of the bombs, the biceps, the bullets, and things like that, which makes good TV, but that's actually 25% of what we do, and that's your final plan. When I'm talking about your primary, secondary, tertiary, and then you get your firearm, that's that 25%. 50% of what we do is support and influence. It's hearts and minds, being embedded with the locals, understanding the demographics, the politics, the tribal influences, and just flying under the radar."
