What does it mean to be a European? Is it a geographical location? Is it a belief in the great modern democratic ideals? Is a set of shared economic goals?

Is it sitting naked and sweaty in cloud of pine scented steam with a group of hairy men for no other reason than to strictly observe a set of well defined and long established rules so as to achieve some vague and ill-defined health benefits while drinking beer?
