This week’s Storeytime is all about Underdog Betting — why underdogs are often mispriced, how to spot value, and what Week 3’s chaos taught us about pulling the trigger at the right time.
Week 3 Rewind — Upsets Reshape the Rankings
Texas A&M 41, Notre Dame 40: The Aggies stunned the Irish as heavy underdogs, flipping the game late and wrecking playoff momentum for Notre Dame. Bettors who took the moneyline cashed big. Georgia Tech 24, Clemson 21: Clemson entered as a double-digit favorite but dropped out of the Top 25 after Tech forced turnovers and stole the game in the fourth. Vanderbilt 28, South Carolina 20: Vandy continues to climb with an outright SEC win. The Commodores rewarded dog bettors and gained a spot in the rankings. Virginia Tech turmoil: A humiliating loss to Old Dominion ended in Brent Pry’s firing. Hokies are now one of the most unpredictable teams on the board. Week 4 Spotlights
Texas Tech at Utah — Sat, 11:00 CT (FOX)
Line: Utah –3.5 | Total: 58.5 Both enter 3–0, but Utah is down WR Daidren Zipperer and safety “Rabbit” Evans for the year. Tech’s QB has 9 TDs with 67% completions; expect downfield shots against a thin Utah secondary. Utah still controls games with a ground attack averaging 212 yards per game. Auburn at Oklahoma — Sat, 2:30 CT (ABC)
Line: OU –6.5 | Total: 48.5 Auburn’s offense leans on the run (192 ypg) but has already allowed 8 sacks. Oklahoma’s defense is giving up just 14 points per game. If the Sooners win in the trenches, they can cover while dragging tempo under. Michigan at Nebraska — Sat, 2:30 CT (CBS)
Line: Michigan –2.5 | Total: 45.5 Freshman QB Bryce Underwood threw for 310 yards last week and has the full playbook open. Nebraska’s defense is top 10 nationally, allowing only 86 rushing yards per game. The Huskers want to force Underwood into the pocket and play for field position. Florida at Miami — Sat, 6:30 CT (ABC)
Line: Miami –7.5 | Total: 51.5 Miami is giving up just 12 points per game and has racked up 11 sacks in three weeks. Florida lost DT Caleb Banks to a long-term injury, weakening the middle of their defense. Miami is running for 201 yards per game at 5.4 per carry and will test the Gators inside. Illinois at Indiana — Sat, 6:30 CT (NBC)
Line: Indiana –5.5 | Total: 52.5 Indiana lost RB Lee Beebe Jr. for the season; he averaged 7.7 yards per carry. Without him, Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black take on a heavier load. Illinois is allowing just 92 rushing yards per game and can exploit the loss of Indiana’s top playmaker. Storeytime — Underdog Betting
Week 3 gave us a reminder of why underdogs matter. Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt all cashed outright as dogs, reshaping polls and markets. Storeytime breaks down the keys: when public confidence inflates a line, how injury news opens windows, and why the best value often hides behind the underdog’s logo.
