PLOT TWIST!
The episode we had booked for this week unfortunately got rebooked SO I decided to launch my first quickie!
A short episode sharing my childhood in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island!
I was born in their 80s in a tiny little fishing/logging town on the coast of British Colombia, where I spent the first 20 years of my life.
Port is a small town of around 18K people, nestled in the centre of Vancouver Island and has a few claim to fame like being the “Heart of Vancouver Island”, the “Salmon Capital of the World” and also “the world place to live”.
I’m sure as most people do, I hated my hometown growing up. It was so small, so limiting, so claustrophobic nestled into a valley of mountains.
It took me moving away and being an Albertan for a decade to truly appreciate Port.
If you can find a good job, it is an amazing little piece of heaven to raise your kids. It’s full of community, outdoor activities and a quick trip in either direction leads to even more beauty.
Although as an adult, I still have no desire to move back, I truly see the beauty there is there. I love having all elements in one spot.
The heat can be tropical like Hawaii, where the cold can cut through right to your bones in the winter. Port sees all seasons and is truly beautiful year round.
Join me on this quickie as I go down memory lane of being raised in a tiny, most wholesome town, nestled in the heart of Vancouver Island ♥️
