Welcome to Daily Growth Point, I’m Pastor John Bingham.
When we consider the life of a student today, it often means sitting in a classroom for a number of hours each day. But when a person became a student (or disciple) of another in the first century, it meant that they completely abandoned the old way of life and followed that one teacher everywhere they went.
You see a disciple wasn’t studying a subject, they were studying the life of the teacher.
In the same way, the term is attached to true followers of Jesus. A disciple is one that attaches themselves to Christ wholeheartedly. It means Christ is exemplified above family and possessions. It requires taking up the cross and living a life devoted to Jesus - full time! This speaks of total surrender in our lives. We surrender the pleasures of the temporary to live a life that is pleasing to God.
