The dreaded interview question - “What do you do outside of work?” Well, I don’t know - Is wine a hobby? Eating cheese straight off the block? Reading 90 Day Fiance message boards? It seems like so many of us don’t have hobbies besides Netflix these days, but what “counts” as a hobby anyway? Today we are talking about why we feel pressure to have hobbies and debating whether or not something needs to be “productive” in order to count. Like, why does reading seem like an insufficient response to the hobby question? Does a hobby need to have an end result? Does it need to be monetized? And, really, the big question - do you need a hobby to be an interesting, fully self-actualized person… or can you just “be” without the added pressure?
