Legacy sequel. What does it mean? Well, the simplest way to put it is "a sequel is made a considerable amount of time after its predecessor," but it's also more than that. Gabe and returning guest Tyler Foster try to suss out the precise meaning of this particularly enigmatic subgenre – and there's a lot to cover in only a couple of hours. First, they talk about early and popular examples, like J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Ryan Coogler's Creed (2015). Then, they ramble about studios' failed attempts at recapturing the cult audiences of the '80s. Then, they go on and on about that weird subset of legacy sequels that change the timeline of long-running franchises, before finally getting down to business and talking about a couple of personal favorites, Danny Boyle's T2 Trainspotting (2017) and Walter Murch's Return to Oz (1985).
