On this episode: Marcus has a conversation with Damontá Madden. A Grand Blanc High School and Ferris State University Alumni from Pontiac, MI, Damontá used his love of sports to escape the realities he was dealing with at home and growing up in the foster care system. Damontá opened up to us about that journey and how it molded him into the man he is today!

Damontá had no college offers nor did he have colleges interested in him until he worked out for Ferris State a month before signing day, and earned a scholarship from Coach Annese that ultimately changed his life. He started as a true freshman, playing Defensive Back and definitely played a vital role in helping the team achieve success by winning two outright conference championships during his time at Ferris State and more.

Damontá mentioned how he wanted to be more than a student athlete, so not only did he start as a true freshman, but he got really involved on campus and started to network with people so that he can be prepared for life after football. Those connections he made helped him go study abroad in Europe, helped him with an internship, and helped get him into graduate school.

Now Damontá works for Admissions at The Unviversity of Colorado-Boulder. This is another conversation of a student-athlete reinventing their self and putting an end to the stigma attached to athletes that they can’t succeed in other things.
