How did Mac and Me end up being one of the most notorious bad movies of all time? By somehow simultaneously being a shameless ripoff of a beloved classic AND a shameless corporate cash grab. This 1988 movie tries to recreate the magic of E.T., but fails miserably. The alien family we're supposed to fall in love with is unsettling at best, horrifying at worst. The friendship between the titular Mac and wheelchair-bound Eric is nonexistent, but we're supposed to be touched by it. It's true that if you replaced all the upbeat and hopeful music with something a little darker, this could be a horror movie--but we guarantee that you'll laugh.
