Listen Later

The Boyz are back with another episode of the grind theory podcast. Today we are joined by Ryan McKenzie who is a great friend, avid traveler and former boss of Aquille. He studied education in university and is involved in the TELUS fiber supply chain industry. Ryan and the Boyz jump into a range of topics from Ryan's upbringing and early childhood, his university experience being older, his experiences teaching, his strategy and what he learnt, we also dive into all his travelling adventures and experiences as well as his Theory of Grind. This is a really dope episode that really brings a unique and different perspective to a bunch of topics.

Ryan takes us back to his early days being born in Nova Scotia and then moving to Alberta at the age of 5 months. He explains what it was like growing up in Morininville and the deep sense of community that they had, especially playing sports where he and the local kids would set up baseball games where they would keep actual stats. According to Ryan he hit his sports prime in grade 4 lol where he said he was at the peak of his athletic Powers.

He goes on to talk about his university experience where he went as a older student, he talks about some of the pros and cons of the situation, saying that one con was that at times it was hard to socialize with the younger kids, you still feel young and that you can do all the things that the 18 year old's can do only to realize that you can’t anymore. He mentions a hilarious story of one of the kids asking how old he actually is and when he answered it was as if they were going around collecting from the bets they made about his age.

Furthermore, Ryan dives into a little of his brief teaching experience and what he learnt, the strategy that Ryan implemented and used when teaching kids was to emphasize teaching them how to think as opposed to what to think because as he quickly realized the basis is always involved from a teacher standpoint. He also said that one key thing that he learned is that when you're teaching and you want to make an impact you have to be passionate and intentional with what you are teaching to really be heard.

We also dive into Ryan numerous travel experiences and adventures where we have travelled to many of the European countries as well as Asia. And it really opened his eyes to how other people live and differences in culture. He notes that a lot of the pre- conceived ideas of danger in different countries don’t happen if you are respectful of the country's culture and people. He also talks about the difference between a traveler and a tourist.

Finally Ryan gives us his theory of the grind, and talks about the importance of living with freedom, staying humble, having fun and trying to improve yourself constantly working to be a good person and the best version of yourself. This episode is filled with laughs and gems and Ryan's unique experiences and perspective is one you don’t want to miss out on.
