Nellie Bly (real name Elizabeth Cochrane Seaman) was a pioneering American journalist in the late 19th century – most remembered for her record-breaking trip around the world in 72 days and her undercover investigation and groundbreaking exposure of the treatment of women in a New York mental asylum. Her work introduced a new brand of investigative journalism that continues today.
