Sunlight does not heat the air, it’s transparent. What we call temperature is an illusion.
Sunlight heats the ground we walk on, which reflects into the air above, and that’s the temperature that we measure.
As the sun rises higher in the sky above us, more heat is reflected from the Earth. That’s why a sunny day in December is still cold; the sunlight is at a low angle relative to the Earth (ground) below.
