Let me begin by reminding my listeners that I lived in Manhattan for 18 months. My first job was with the American Thread Company, located at 260 West Broadway. That’s so far downtown; REI in SoHo is actually uptown!

FYI/I looked in at Apple Maps and found that REI is also east of The Bowery, not exactly the most fashionable address in Manhattan.

As an aside, Apple Maps tells me that NYC has an “emergency” expedited passport office, which I guess is necessary in a “sanctuary city”, for illegals to become legal, but I digress.

On the other hand, we have Lingua Franca, a technical term used to describe the ascendancy of French as the language of diplomacy in the 16/17/18 century. 
The ascendancy of the French language in diplomacy continued until the establishment of the League of Nations or Société des Nations (Fr).
The United Nations (organization) skirted the language issue by establishing the Five Office Languages: Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic, have were added later.
When in session, the General Assembly (or Security Council) uses simultaneous translators to translate the speakers in each of the six languages recognized.

July/3, I got my instant ink bill from HP (June activity). I went 10 pages over my plan, and my bill was twice as high.
I decided to cancel Instant Ink and visited HP’s website. You have to do it by telephone — no two-click service here.
Here’s what I found out — first, they encourage you to “upgrade your plan”
I selected cancel, now they want the printer model number (this is a stall tactic). I suggested they look it up because I have only a single unit.
At any rate, I learned two things:

First cancellation is effective in August — I’m already into the July billing cycle, when I received my bill.

Second, I have to replace the cartridges in my printer after August 1st — they will no longer work.

Based on my experience with HP cartridges, I can expect six to eight months of service, which means a $38 cartridge is costing me about $8.50 per month vs the $9.25 in July.

Here’s a little hint for HP users — write the date of cartridge installation on the label with a Sharpie. Record the date taken out of service in a blank check register. That will track your usage.

Sunlight does not heat the air, it’s transparent. What we call temperature is an illusion.
Sunlight heats the ground we walk on, which reflects into the air above, and that’s the temperature that we measure.
As the sun rises higher in the sky above us, more heat is reflected from the Earth. That’s why a sunny day in December is still cold; the sunlight is at a low angle relative to the Earth (ground) below.

Another Low information judicial decision
Perhaps the 917 Society needs to change its mission 
Forget copies of the Constitution to school kids, send them to judges instead!
No civil authority in our nation may grant access to the United States; that power is reserved to the President ie  “the national government”! 
That same fuzzy-headed foolishness snatches migrating sea turtles from their habitat. Which is also against the law of the United States!
As the chief executive officer of the United States, the President has an absolute right to withhold my money to aid any “rebellious” action. 
Every “sanctuary city” may be considered to be in rebellion against Constituted authority!
