In recent times there have been staggering societal shifts in the practice and definition of marriage, with some noting that marriage has changed more in the last few decades than in the last few thousand years. These radical shifts have not been limited to society but also within the Church too, with a number of major historic denominations now debating or even accepting the validity of same-sex marriage.

This raises all sorts of questions around what marriage is, who gets to define it, and how Christians ought to respond. Is same-sex marriage easily comparable to traditional heterosexual marriage? Is there actually something about male and female that makes marriage unique? And what other expressions of marriage might now be opened up as a result of same-sex marriage?

Andy Bannister, Michael Ots, and Aaron Edwards wade into this forest of thorns with their usual blend of theology, cultural analysis, and banter, in the hopes of bringing further clarity and insight.
