Episode 18: Minorites Amongst Majorities w/ Rheana

Listen Later

The phrase “melting point” has never been more true about the United States. With second and third generation children growing up and joining the workforce, the idea of being a minority doesn’t seem too far fetched as it did decades ago. But this doesn’t mean that the lived experiences of immigrant children have been easy. Rheana is a recent nursing graduate and a new PICU nurse who talks about growing up in predominantly white neighbourhoods. It wasn’t until she got older than Rheana was able to immerse herself into her Filipinx heritage. Rheana shared her story on embracing her cultural identity while at the same time sharing how she’s dealt with feeling different as a woman of color.
