SEASON FOUR PREMIER!
I'm back after a year+ away and the first episode is a reflection of where I've been on social media since season 3 ended: TikTok – that raging Chinese app that the United States (or Mark Zuckerberg, depending on who you ask) keeps trying to ban.
I landed on the transgender movement side of TikTok -- maybe because when asked to select my pronouns, I chose "any pronouns"? And while I've been able to diversify my algorithm since joining the app, I recently came across a skit where the creator did a breakdown of why they chose "any pronouns". The comment section was rife with angry people saying this take is purposely argumentative and that people who truly don't care should just pick the gender they were assigned at birth for their pronouns.
It was really the comments that made me start down the trans rabbit hole again. What I thought was the most benign option (call me whatever you want because I don't care) was STILL a polarizing take on an app made for and primarily used by younger people. The short journey I took is laid out in the episode.
