Tech Overlords

Episode 20 - Open Source-ery

Listen Later

We have another man down! Tonight we are missing a Nathanael. He is currently out with the plague but he should be back next week.

I haven't talked to Kurt much lately but he is super busy with all his classes for solar tech. We will try and get him back on a show soon!

We dig pretty dip into a lot of new 3D printing tech this week.

MIT has created new CAD software. You can learn how to use it within 45 minutes! It also makes it very easy to design with multi materials in mind.

Do you love not having a headphone jack on your iPhone 7 but hate how your AirPods always fall out of your ears? Well if you don't already have your ears pierced you will be getting it done soon! There is now a 3D design for earrings that will catch your ear pods if they fall out of your ear. I'm sure that will look super cool...

XYZPrinting is making big moves to get 3D printers into schools for very cheap.

Do you love robots and have no fear of a Skynet uprising? Well then we have some products for you!

Kobi is a new robot that will mow or mulch your grass, rake up your leaves, and even plow your snow for you!

Love the smell of freshly folded laundry without the effort of actually folding it?! Now for the low low price of $1,999 you can have your own robot that will sort and fold all of your laundry.

We do talk some security this week but not as much as usual as there wasn't a ton of interesting things going on that I found.

Clawing to keep what few users they have left from leaving their service, Yahoo! has recently disabled their mail forwarding under the circumstances of "improving its functionality". Also known as, please don't leave us! We will be good to you this time... promise.

Samsung is literally blowing up in the news still. So much so that they are completely stopping all production of Galaxy Note 7 phones. That's going to burn a hole in their pocket, if you know what I mean.

You should be glad that we try and keep the file size of our show as small as possible without sacrificing quality. If you are a Comcast customer you should appreciate that! Soon you will be limited to a 1TB data cap per month. That might sound like a lot but it really isn't. Not to mention the fact there is no good reason for such a thing to even exist other than to rob you of even more of your money.

Thanks for listening!
