For the last few months, Indonesia has been rocked by ongoing national protests regarding the passing of the Omnibus Law and its effects on human rights, participation and democracy. But fierce discourse has been circulating between the people as to whether or not the protests have been bringing more harm than change. There is also an issue of the government turning a blind eye towards the demands of the people, despite the intensity of it. Despite that, non violent actions have always been the blueprint for contestation, yet there is so much debate on it’s effectiveness. For that reason, this episode will discuss the various forms of nonviolent actions/collective actions, justification on why demonstration is important in a functioning democracy and as a platform for those who don’t have any decision making power as well as alternative solution on other nonviolent actions in the face of the governments’ reluctance to respond to the demands of the people. Find more about them with Christophorus Ariobumi, Dara Laras & Dhania Salsha in the episode of Demos’ Delights, Saucy Democracy! (This podcast is part 4 of the "Democracy and Contestation" Series)
