In the early 1970's, a 40 year-old named Robert Berchtold moved next door to the Broberg family and developed a strange infatuation with one of the family's children, nine year-old Jan Broberg. He would take pictures of her, sleep beside her at sleepovers, and invite her AND ONLY HER to go on lavish trips with him. Eventually, he decided to kidnap her. Not once... not twice... BUT THREE TIMES! AH! He could've been stopped earlier if Berchtold hadn't had both of Jan's parents wrapped around his finger, which makes the case even more absurd. Jan survived to talk about how Berchtold convinced her during her kidnappings that she was an alien that had to procreate with him to save the alien race as a guise for his demented fascination.
