“The lace alone cost £100!”
A failed #Beatles reunion in 1976, Danish butter cookies tins, “Gorblimey, It’s Not B’uttah?”, Capt Peacock’s ogling of Rumbold’s secretary (yet again). We hear Mr. Harmond’s “Rolling ‘Round the World” finally! And Brandon has a theory behind the song with Mrs. Mills and East End London pub songs (with another Beatles connection!). Professor Jeff explains that “carpet” can refer to table cloths, etc. Silly corporate speak, Lucas minces with Humphries and Peacock tries to appear surprised (badly).
The BBC (rightly) sliced out a jewish joke from the original episode and we discuss the reasons and the benefits of cutting the joke (a mere 6 words) from the episode.
Power goes right to Mr. Grainger’s head when he’s temporarily made manager. Grainger sounds like Emperor Palpatine. An original prop (relic?) from Mr. Rumbold’s desk: the galleon ship metal ashtray (soon to be installed in the That Does Suit Madame Museum of N. Mississippi).
Humphries turns motherly and cares for Grainger as he falls from power. The history behind the phrase “being sent to Conventry”.
Shortwave radios in the 90s and listening to AYBS over the FM dial in the 90s.
