What exactly is the role of a parent?

Perhaps our ideas of parental responsibilities may differ slightly but there is no doubt that love and protection would find their way into most of our lists of what to expect of parents.

It is not uncommon for parents to be sometimes confused on how best to dispense love and protection neither is it uncommon for children to wonder if their parents truly love them and are indeed trying to protect them.
