Episode 230 - Communications Silence During a Crisis - with Keith Erwood

Listen Later

We all understand how important communication is during a crisis. But this week's guest says that during high profile building evacuations, there is a time when communications silence is the proper protocol. But that doesn't mean we don't communicate.

Hello everyone and welcome to episode 230 of the Resilient Journey Podcast, presented by Anesis Consulting Group!

This week we are joined by former NY City EMS, turned resilience professional Keith Erwood.

Keith and Mark take a couple of minutes to circle back to our recent conversation about blast radius. Keith explains that to him, the term literally refers to damage caused by an explosion. And that leads Keith to the topic of communications silence during an evacuation. He says that silence doesn't mean we don't communicate during the crisis, it means that our phones can't be used to detonate a device. Keith says while this is counter-intuitive and encounters pushback, radio silence is essential.
