In 1857 Thomas Whaley built his family home on the site of the old San Diego gallows. Over the next decades, the house would be the site of numerous tragedies within the family. Now, the Whaley House is known for its history and its hauntings. Those who have visited recall experiencing heavy footsteps, apparitions, and rope burns on their necks.
