When a person is comfortable and familiar they will sometimes open themselves up to things that aren't good for them. Being blind to reality and the truth keeps people in unhealthy relationships. A familiar love most times end up as no love at all. Mature and good adults do have a familiar love, but I'm not talking about those couples, I'm talking about people who get into and stay in relationships with people based solely on what they want, overlooking what they're actually getting. They become comfortable and familiar to a point of being stuck in loveless and unhealthy relationships.
