Episode 26: Categorization of Art Stifles Creativity

Hey team! Happy Thanksgiving! For many of us, we were taught in grade school that Thanksgiving was a peaceful integration of two cultures as America was colonizing. I would just like to remind everyone that this could not be further from the truth; this country was built on the innocent Native lives that were taken so cruelly by these colonizers. While it's a beautiful thing to be thankful, also take some time to do some research about some of the Native tragedies and how the US continues to mistreat them.


Today's episode is about how the art is stifled when put into separate boxes. Specifically, how Black artists (specifically musicians) are only "allowed" and categorized as Rap/Hip-Hop despite these albums clearly being different genres. This is how creativity dies! There's a discussion on how this reinforces that minority groups are only allowed is specific spaces. Check it out!
