Dr. Erika Bright has done her homework...literally.
I got in contact with her through my aunt, who told me that accomplished oboist Dr. Bright had compiled a large bibliography on musician injury, and that I definitely should have her on the show.
And I am so glad she did!
Listen as Dr. Erika Bright shares with me her extended experiences with tendinitis, surgeries, and other experiences that led her down the path of injury as an oboist, and how that changed the course of her career.
And we go into it all, from injury recovery, the importance of playing on correct equipment, working through performance anxiety, to even how athletes and musicians have a LOT in common!
This is not one to miss!
Takeaways:
-Good technique, posture, and relaxation are essential for preventing and managing injuries.
-Performance anxiety can contribute to tension and injury, but it can be managed through breathing exercises, mental focus, and positive self-talk.
-Investing in overall health, including nutrition, exercise, and sleep, is crucial for musicians' well-being and performance.
-During recovery, musicians can explore other musical activities, such as composition, music history, or teaching, to continue their musical development.
-Injury and recovery can build resilience, character, and empathy, and provide opportunities for personal growth.
