Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo: The Iron Man is a seminal text of both body horror and Japanese cyberpunk, an experimental horror/superhero film that’s as surreal as it is disgusting. We discuss the film’s nightmarish merging of technology, violence, and sexuality, the cultural anxieties behind it, and where the two Davids (Lynch and Cronenberg) fit in.
