Consider that Pre-colonial education was the system that prevailed in Africa before the Whites introduced western formal system of education. Pre-colonial societies had formally practised informal and formal. Informal system was common in sub-Saharan Africa while formal system was practically conducted in West Africa and North-East Africa where Al-Azhar, Timbuktu, Fez and Sankore universities were establishe.
